Load hooks are mechanical devices that are attached to lifting equipment such as cranes, chain slings and hoisting to lift and transport loads safely.

They have a curved shape that enables load handling attachments such as ropes, chains, slings or slings to be hooked safely.

Their most important feature and function is their load-bearing capacity. Load hooks are designed for various maximum weights that must not be exceeded.

Many load hooks have a safety feature to prevent the load from slipping off. For self locking hooks these are a locking devise and for safety hooks there is a recessed hook tip with a locking safetz latch.

Load hooks must meet certain industry standards and be certified to ensure that they can withstand the loads for which they are designed.

To meet different requirements, there are a range of hook types. These are often referred to as clevis safety hooks, eye hooks, clevis self-locking hooks, eye type self-locking hooks.

There are different types of load hooks depending on the application and load requirements. Here are some common types:

• Simple load hooks (single hook): These are the most basic hooks used for simple applications where the load can be hung directly from the hook.
• Self locking closing hooks: These hooks have a mechanism that closes automatically as soon as the load is lifted. This increases safety by reducing the risk of the load accidentally falling.
• Swivel load hooks: These hooks can rotate on their own axis, which prevents the lifting equipment (e.g. ropes or chains) from twisting.
• Eye hooks: These are load hooks with an eye are designed to be connected to by either a shackle or a connecting link and offer a flexible connection option.
• Clevis hook: A clevis hook is a hook with a clevis and a bolt or pin at the base.
• Weld-on hooks: These hooks are permanently attached to the load. This means that the attachment point remains in the defined position. It is therefore not possible to unscrew the attachment point in the direction of the load.

Depending on the load and the specific requirements of the lifting operation, the strength of the material, the size and shape of the hook and the type of fastener can also vary. It is important that the load hook complies with the applicable safety standards and is designed for the corresponding load class.
