INOX/NiRo Bow Shackles CSB-
Quality at the highest level

Stainless Steel Bow Shackles CSB
- Highest standards

The stainless-steel bow shackles by cromox® are globally recognized for their performance under harsh conditions. The stainless steel used for these shackles, is identified as material number AISI 316L. It is corrosion resistant against severe weather conditions and aggressive liquids. The products meet Grade 60 quality standards. Therefore, these bow stainless steel shackles are recommended for use in industries like automotive or chemical manufacturing. In addition, the material AISI 316L is considered the ideal solution for lifting or transporting loads in the food industry due to its excellent hygienic properties. The “cromox® Bow Shackles CSB” can be found in the Ketten-Wälder shop in various sizes with load capacities ranging from W.L.L. = 0.40tons to W.L.L. = 16.00 tons for chain sizes between 4mm and 26 mm. Detailed dimensions and technical data are available in the product descriptions.

Shackles are used in lifting systems to connect components like load hooks and lifting attachments, enabling easy replacement. A screwable eye bolt or a bolt with a cotter pin ensures both secure connection and ease of exchange. The bow design offers greater freedom of movement compared to a straight design. cromox® stainless steel shackles comply with the European DIN EN 13889 standards for high-strength shackles. The stainless steel and related products are tested for qualities like fatigue strength, load capacity, corrosion resistance, and more. Testing is conducted in the Ketten-Wälder in-house laboratory, regularly certified by Lloyd's Register. Each stainless steel bow shackle represents top-notch quality. Additional types of stainless steel shackles from cromox®, such as D-shackles, bow safety shackles with cotter pins, or quick-connect shackles, are also available in the shop.

Applications for Stainless Steel Bow Shackles

The special material AISI 316L makes these Grade 60 shackles suitable for various applications where reliability and durability are crucial. They are used both indoors and outdoors wherever a strong, secure connection capable of withstanding high tensile loads is required. The easy handling and meticulous manufacturing allow for quick changes of chains or loads without compromising the reliability of the connection. While galvanized shackles have limited use due to corrosion susceptibility, cromox® straight and bow shackles are suitable for demanding tasks.

Stainless steel shackles are used in maritime applications for attaching ropes, chains, and anchors. This material is also chosen for its non-toxicity, making these shackles a preferred choice in the food industry or for pumps in drinking water treatment facilities. In architecture, bow shackles made of AISI 316L stainless steel with their polished surface are used for structural or even aesthetic purposes, such as attaching facade elements or in bridge cable fastenings. While AISI 318LN Duplex stainless steel offers greater strength and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for permanent use in seawater and other extreme conditions, it is more challenging to work with and more costly to produce.

Standards and Material for cromox® Stainless Steel Bow Shackles

DIN EN 13889 outlines requirements for forged shackles for general lifting purposes. They are also subject to the German statutory accident insurance DGVU, which specifies the use of work equipment. EN 13889 specifies the manufacturing process, materials used, threads, dimensions and elements like shackle bolts, screw bolts, and cotter pins, as well as standards for testing forces, fatigue strength, manufacturing inspection, and certification. The standard also includes mandatory guidelines for using different types of shackles for permanent and non-permanent connections, and ensures the presence and condition of markings are maintained. Special conditions apply for multi-leg slings.

Material for cromox® Stainless Steel Bow Shackles

Stainless steel with material number AISI 316L is used worldwide. This premium stainless steel alloy is notable for its excellent corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. It falls under the category of austenitic stainless steels. Typically, AISI 316L contains about 16-18% chromium, 10-13% nickel, and 2-2.5% molybdenum. Its low carbon content (maximum 0.03%) distinguishes it from AISI 316, contributing to its corrosion resistance. Due to its low carbon content, AISI 316L is easily weldable and less prone to post-weld corrosion, a common issue with other high-carbon stainless steels. This steel offers a balanced combination of strength and toughness at both low and high temperatures, tolerating the temperature ranges prescribed in EN 13889 from -20° to +200° Celsius.
